From Your First Shot to a Finished Film: Filmmaking Expert Diploma 2026

From Your First Shot to a Finished Film: Filmmaking Expert Diploma 2026

Every great film begins with an idea. Turning that idea into a compelling visual story requires creativity, technical knowledge and practical experience.

The LIK Academy’s Filmmaking Expert Diploma guides you through the complete digital filmmaking process — from camera operation, visual storytelling and sound recording to professional editing, colour grading and post-production.

The international English-language class starts on 30 September 2026 and can be attended in Vienna or live online.

Learn Filmmaking by Making Films

Filmmaking is a practical craft. That is why hands-on experience is at the heart of the LIK Academy programme.

Throughout the course, you will put your knowledge into practice through guided exercises, independent assignments and your own film projects. Professional feedback will help you develop both your technical skills and your personal visual language.

The programme covers the essential stages of modern film and video production:

  • Camera technology and professional camera operation

  • Composition and visual storytelling

  • Camera movements, lenses, gimbals and accessories

  • Lighting design for film and interviews

  • Sound recording, microphones and music

  • Film concepts, scripts and shot lists

  • Interview techniques and production planning

  • Video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Colour correction and colour grading

  • Special effects with Adobe After Effects

  • Production planning and budgeting

  • Practical film projects

From the Initial Idea to Production

A successful film starts long before the camera begins recording.

You will learn how to develop an idea, define the message of a film and create a clear production concept. The course introduces you to scripts, shot lists, interview planning and the visual requirements of image films, product films, advertising films and social media content.

These skills allow you to approach your own productions with greater confidence, structure and creative control.

Professional Camera, Sound and Lighting Skills

The technical quality of a film depends on more than the camera alone. Image composition, movement, focus, lighting and sound all work together to create a professional result.

During the practical sessions, you will explore different camera settings, film formats, resolutions and lenses. You will work with camera movements, tracking shots, gimbals, interview setups and practical lighting techniques.

You will also learn how to select and use microphones, record interviews and combine spoken sound, atmosphere and music effectively.

Editing and Post-Production

Post-production is where individual shots become a complete story.

Using Adobe Premiere Pro, you will learn how to import and organise footage, edit sequences, add music and text, apply effects and export a finished film. Advanced lessons introduce keyframes, speed ramps, masks, stabilisation, colour correction and professional colour grading.

The programme also provides an introduction to Adobe After Effects, including layers, compositing, tracking, animation and the integration of graphic elements into film footage.
